These interactions typically add the site visitor to our “E-Champion” house file, an email list of persons interested in tobacco control issues or advocacy. We maintain this list so we can provide interested individuals with relevant information or offer additional action opportunities. Recipients always have the option to unsubscribe or opt-out of any future communications.

We may share the provided personal information with companies we have contracted to assist us with running this website or our digital campaigns, but solely for technical or operational purposes. In such cases, we require these companies to sign a non-disclosure agreement as part of their contract with us. We will not sell or share our list. And we will not provide any personal contact information to any other organization or individual unless we are required by law or where we have a good-faith belief that such action is necessary to comply with a current judicial proceeding, a court order or legal process. We may sometimes use visitors’ Internet Provider (IP) addresses to help diagnose problems with our server, and we use them, as necessary, to administer our websites.

At our online Action Center on TobaccoFreeKids.org, we provide visitors with opportunities to submit statements to third parties, such as elected officials. By submitting such statements, visitors acknowledge that information such as name, email, and/or address (depending on which fields they fill in) will be sent to this third party along with their statement.

The Tobacco Control Champions program is designed for users to specifically opt in to coordinate with other advocates and organizations in the tobacco control movement. Individuals who opt-in to this program give permission to have their email, name and social media profile information shared with other entities in the program. No entities outside of the Tobacco Control Champions program will have access to this data.

CONTACT INFORMATION FORMS

We require users to provide their email address when using one of our various “Contact Us” forms so that we can respond to visitor questions or comments as needed. We do not keep these email addresses longer than needed to be able to respond to queries.

How We Use Cookies

(AND OTHER WAYS WE PASSIVELY COLLECT DATA)

We may use cookies (a small piece of data sent from a website and stored on the user’s computer by the user’s web browser) to enable us to send registered visitors information and other content specific to their expressed interests, and to save a visitor’s personal password so s/he does not have to re-enter it each time the password-required sections of the website are visited. We offer visitors the choice to have us save their passwords, and visitors can accept or reject any cookies from our websites by taking advantage of the related settings and tools on their own computers.

We may also use commercially available third-party analytics services (such as Google Analytics) to analyze website traffic and aggregate user behavior so that we can better manage our content and improve our sites. In these cases, the data we receive from third-party companies have been aggregated and/or stripped of elements that would directly tie them to specific user email addresses.

Scope of this Privacy Policy

This Privacy Statement applies only to information collected by TobaccoFreeKids.org and other Tobacco-Free Kids websites mentioned on this page.

Because our sites contain links to other sites, we encourage visitors to be aware when they leave our site and to read the privacy statements of other sites. The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids is not responsible for the privacy practices or the content of these other websites.

Security

We strive to keep security measures in place to protect visitors against the loss, misuse, or alteration of any visitor information under our control. This includes the use of the Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) for processing donations and financial information.

Our Commitment to Children’s Privacy

The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids’ mission is to protect kids from tobacco, and we are equally committed to making children’s on-line experience with us as safe, constructive, and enjoyable as possible. We do NOT actively collect online contact information from children under the age of 13 without taking steps to provide prior parental notification or obtain prior parental consent (in which we offer an opportunity for parents to prevent use of their children’s information or stop their participation in the activity). Unless we receive a communication providing prior parental consent, online information will be used only to respond directly to the child’s request and not for other purposes.

More specifically, with regard to visitors under the age of 13, our websites:

Do NOT collect personally identifiable offline contact information without prior parental notification;

Do NOT distribute to third parties any personally identifiable information without prior parental consent;

Do NOT give the ability to publicly post or otherwise distribute personally identifiable contact information without prior parental consent;

Do NOT entice visitors—by the prospect of a special game, prize or other activity—to divulge more information than is needed to participate in the activity;

Do ALLOW parents to review, change and/or delete their child’s personal information given to the Campaign;

Do NOTIFY parents if we change the purpose for which we use a child’s information (e.g. if we were to begin a chat room).

Unfortunately, given technological and resource limitations, it may be possible for some children under thirteen to evade our efforts to notify parents or obtain prior parental consent—especially if their parents do not supervise or monitor their Internet use at home.

To Contact the Website

Website Manager
Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids
1400 Eye Street, NW Suite 1200
Washington, D.C. 20005

info@tobaccofreekids.org
202.296.5469

To Update Your Information or to Stop Getting Emails from Tobacco-Free Kids:

Email info@tobaccofreekids.org

Manage your subscription to update or change provided contact information.

Send mail to the following postal address:Grassroots Director
Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids
1400 Eye Street, NW Suite 1200
Washington, D.C. 20005

Changes to this Privacy Policy

If we change our privacy policy, we will post those changes to this privacy statement, and other places we deem appropriate so visitors can readily determine what information we collect, how we use it and under what circumstances, if any, we disclose it.

Last updated Sept. 10, 2019

The Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids has created this privacy statement to demonstrate our firm commitment to protecting the privacy of visitors to our websites and describe our information-gathering and dissemination practices.
